I am so excited and refreshed since I've had a whole month out of school! I know some people discuss how exhausting rewarding teaching is but I must say we do need a month to recover from the school year. I know this post is lengthy but hang in here, I have some stuff to tell ya!
So this is most my prized possession other than my sweet child.
Okay.... I know it is sad but I fell in love with the cute little crate seats some time go. I never had the time to experiment with making them. I plan to do a sports theme this year so, I wanted to add some cute little items for the kiddos. The cool thing is the tops come off and you can store whatever you want to in there. Here is kinda sorta the steps in making them.
1) First I found the old crates. I chose the ones that are a bit more sturdy so that they would stand some wear and tear.
2) This the part I do not have a picture of. My sweet husband measured the inside rim of the crate measuring length wise and width wise. He added 2 inches to those measurements. So the wood is larger than the crate at the top. We bought wood that was about 1 1/2 inch thick. We then had wood cut in 2 pieces that were the with of the crate and only about 2 inches wide. We drilled those two parts in to the large top part to make sure the lid did not slide off of the crate. AGAIN I APOLOGIZE THAT THERE IS NO PHOTO FOR THIS!!!!
3) I purchased fabric from JoAnn Fabric that was on sale!
4) Then I purchased a twin foam mattress pad from family dollar. They were about $6. I cut the pad to the same size as the crate seat top then placed the pad and wood on top of the fabric. I then stapled the sides with a staple gun.
I already had the stool. It just needed some padding for my tush! So I did the same thing for the stool. And here is the finished product. They are not as cute as others I have seen on other sights but I think they are darn cute!
They are very cute! Can't wait to see them in your classroom :)
